Sacramento , Calif., June 23, 2011 – Employees at The Golden 1 Credit Union showed their caring spirit by making and donating a sandbox to St. John's Shelter for Women and Children in Sacramento.
Golden 1 employees were able to purchase materials to make the sandbox through funds raised from several nacho sales in the credit union's cafeteria during lunch. Many residents at the shelter are children and the sandbox will be a great addition to the playground.
"The employees here at Golden 1 never cease to amaze me with their generosity," said Golden 1 President and CEO Donna A. Bland. "This was a wonderful experience for us, plus it helped show residents at St. John's that the community does care."
St. John's Shelter for Women and Children is the only shelter in the Sacramento area focused on providing support to homeless women with children—the most vulnerable members of the homeless population.
Since 1985, more than 23,000 displaced women and children have been given a head start toward rebuilding their lives thanks to the efforts of St. John's Shelter.
The Golden 1 Credit Union is California’s leading credit union, with more than 80 branches, $7.7 billion in assets and 600,000 members.
