SACRAMENTO, CA, July 27, 2011—Kara Giano, Golden 1’s Vice President of Internal Audit, has been named the Internal Auditor of the Year by the Association of Credit Union Internal Auditors (ACUIA).
In addition, Golden 1’s Internal Audit Department won third place in the Internal Audit “Best Auditing Practice” award category, also presented by the ACUIA. Internal Audit staff members plan to donate their prize to a local charity.
“Golden 1 is committed to encouraging its team members to become leaders in their chosen fields,” said Golden 1 President and CEO Donna A. Bland. “Kara and her colleagues have certainly shown their expertise in internal auditing, and are valued contributors to Golden 1’s success.”
The Terry McEachern Internal Auditor of the Year Award was established in 1995 to recognize auditors who make a significant contribution to the internal audit profession and to the credit union industry. According to the ACUIA, recipients have “demonstrated personal and professional leadership in serving the industry, profession and community.”
Giano has more than 16 years of internal audit experience in the financial services industry and is a Certified Internal Auditor and Certified Investments and Derivatives Auditor. She has been a member of the ACUIA since 2007. She actively serves as an Associate Board Member and is ACUIA’s California Chapter Coordinator. She has also served as a volunteer for its Annual Conference Planning Committee.
“I am so honored to receive this award. ACUIA has been dedicated to the professional practice of credit union internal auditing for over 21 years,” said Giano. “ACUIA was the first place I went to when I needed to learn about credit union risks. Internal auditors serve an important role for the CEO, Supervisory Committee, and our members. I look forward to continuing to learn from my peers in the credit union industry.”
The Golden 1 Credit Union is California’s leading credit union, with more than 80 branches, $7 billion in assets and 600,000 members.
