SACRAMENTO, Calif., July 24, 2012—The Golden 1 Credit Union announced that its person-to-person payment service has been upgraded to the national Popmoney® system. The service, which was formerly known as EZPaySM, allows Golden 1 members to send and receive money to and from individuals using a mobile phone number, email address, or account information.
Popmoney is a free and easy way for Golden 1 members to pay people they know, such as a friend, a landlord, or a family member. Instead of writing a check or going to an ATM, Golden 1 members can perform these transactions through their computer.
In addition to the ability to send money to and receive money from individuals, the new service includes expanded features, such as the ability to send e-greetings along with payments, set up future and recurring payments, import contacts from popular email services, and more.
"Popmoney brings a new level of convenience to our members," said Donna Bland, Golden 1's President and CEO. "They don't have to worry about having cash or a check to pay someone they know. They can pay back a friend for dinner, send money to a child in college, or send a payment to their gardener—with just a click of the mouse."
Popmoney is offered to financial institutions nationwide by Fiserv, Inc., a leading provider of information management and electronic commerce systems. The new service is part of Golden 1 OnlineSM, the credit union's secure Internet-based banking system.
The Golden 1 Credit Union is California's leading credit union, with 83 branches, $7.8 billion in assets and more than 600,000 members.
