SACRAMENTO, Calif., July 24, 2013—Golden 1 Credit Union awarded 33 students a total of $320,000 in renewable scholarships.
The Golden 1 Credit Union awards annual renewable scholarships of $1,000 to $5,000 to full-time students who plan to attend an accredited, nonprofit two- or four-year college or university in California. Applicants were required to have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and be involved in community service and extracurricular activities. In addition, the student or the student’s parent or guardian must have been a Golden 1 member for at least one year at the time of application.
Golden 1 received applications from students between October 15, 2012, and January 15, 2013. The winners were notified in April, and scholarship funds will be disbursed to each student’s college or university in August, in time for the fall semester or quarter.

One of the winners, Svea Milet Joaquino, of Elk Grove, received the Golden 1 Credit Union Donna Giles Memorial Scholarship, which was named in honor of the credit union’s former board member who exemplified leadership and made numerous contributions to Golden 1 and the community. This renewable scholarship awards $5,000, for a total of up to $20,000 over four years.

Golden 1 will start accepting applications online in October 2013 for scholarships that will be awarded in fall 2014. Application and eligibility details will be available later this summer on our Scholarships page.
