Golden 1 Credit Union Awards Scholarships Worth $357,500
Sacramento, Calif., May 1, 2014 - Golden 1 Credit Union awarded scholarships to 33 students planning to attend colleges and universities in California in the fall of 2014. The total value of these scholarships over the next four years is $357,500.
Golden 1 scholarships are automatically renewable for two- to four years. Ranging in amount from $1,000 to $5,000 per year these scholarships are awarded to full-time students who plan to attend accredited, nonprofit colleges and universities in California. Applicants were required to have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and be involved in community service and extracurricular activities. In addition, the student or the student’s parent or guardian must have been a Golden 1 member for at least one year at the time of application.
The application period for Golden 1 Credit Union Scholarships is open from October 15 through January 15 each year. This year's winners were notified in April and their scholarship funds will be awarded in August.

Karla Denise Bernardo of Sacramento, received the Golden 1 Credit Union Donna Giles Memorial Scholarship, which was named in honor of the credit union’s former board member who exemplified leadership and made numerous contributions to Golden 1 and the community. This renewable scholarship awards $5,000 annually for up to $20,000 over four years.
