Big Day of Giving and Golden 1 members: A match made in California
At Golden 1 Credit Union, we believe strong communities are built by people who care and by organizations that show up, day after day, to meet real needs.
That’s why we’re proud to again support the Big Day of Giving (BDOG), a 24-hour giving challenge that boosts hundreds of nonprofits across California’s Capitol Region. Participating in BDOG creates real-time excitement as the totals increase throughout the day. That amplifies individual donations and builds awareness of local challenges, progress, and solutions. Since BDOG’s inception in 2013, 60,000 donors like you have raised more than $100 million for a variety of incredible causes.
Big Day of Giving offers a powerful opportunity to rally around causes you love. Participating organizations feed families, shelter survivors, uplift seniors, and create space for habitat, healing, and hope. (And puppies! Don’t forget the puppies.)
How to give
Giving on Big Day is simple and impactful. Starting April 17, 2025, you can visit the Big Day of Giving website to search for and select your preferred nonprofits. More than 800 to choose from! Discover something new. Give for the first time, or champion a long-time favorite.
Giving starts at 12:01 a.m. Thursday, May 1 and last 24 hours.
Matching funds for member donations
If you’re a Golden 1 member, you’re part of a community of generous givers. In 2024, you gave more than $812,000. As a member, you can also increase your impact by participating in Golden 1’s donation match. Since 2014, we’ve provided a matching fund for member donations made with Golden 1 debit or credit cards. In 2025, we’re matching up to a total of $100,000. The nonprofits our members donate to will receive a boost from the matching fund on a prorated basis.
Big Day’s impact
Here are just a few of the remarkable organizations you and Golden 1 have supported in the past:
Del Paso Heights Growers’ Alliance, supporting thriving ecosystems, sustainable neighborhoods and economies through policy, advocacy, and experiential education, with a special focus on food sovereignty with preservation of BIPOC cultural practices.
- We successfully provided more than 40 stipends to community residents experiencing financial hardship. Eighteen stipends ranged from $25 - $100 for supporting weekly greenhouse building and garden maintenance activities. We cared for fruit trees in the community orchard and helped organize the grand opening of a new chicken farm operated by a Black farmer. Our work is amplified thanks to Golden 1.
College Track, providing services for students from low-income communities who will become the first in their family to graduate from college. Services range from high school-level academic coaching to college transition guidance and early career support.
- One of our Sacramento students recently shared how impactful College Track has been in their academic journey. They said, "It’s very hard to get 1:1 support in high school with the teachers because so many people need help. College Track is like school but upgraded – we get more in touch with what we do, and I love it."
Thank you Golden 1 for supporting our College Track Sacramento program!
916 Ink, providing workshops and tutoring to transform Sacramento youth into strong readers, confident communicators, and published authors.
- From a 916 Ink tutor and leader: “My favorite aspect is being able to help so many different students gain confidence in their ability to grow and learn different things. Even though we primarily focus on reading, our program makes an impact on the students’ mental health, and gives them something to look forward to every week.”
