October 16, 2025, Sacramento, CA

California credit unions unite to showcase strength and impact of the global credit union movement

Golden 1 Credit Union (Golden 1) joined credit unions in California and around the world on Oct. 16 to celebrate International Credit Union (ICU) Day®, an annual event to commemorate the credit union movement’s impact and achievements. This year marks the 77th anniversary of this annual event, celebrating financial inclusion and global well-being.

Credit unions around the world celebrated in ways that strengthen ties with their local communities. Golden 1 hosted an event at its Sacramento headquarters with elected officials and other community and credit union partners in attendance. The celebration was part of a statewide series of events designed to showcase the unity and collaboration of the credit union movement.

“Today is a celebration of the credit union movement and the meaningful impact we’ve made and continue to make in communities around the world,” said Donna Bland, President and CEO of Golden 1 Credit Union. “We are proud to be part of a movement that truly listens to its members, helping them achieve their goals, overcome challenges, and build brighter futures. This purpose-driven approach reflects our people-helping-people philosophy and continues to empower lives every day.”

Golden 1 joined eight other credit unions in hosting events across California to celebrate ICU Day. Each event drew dozens of attendees, showcasing strong, widespread support for the global credit union movement. Participating credit unions included California Credit Union (San Diego), Chaffey Federal Credit Union (Rancho Cucamonga), Kinecta Credit Union (El Segundo/Manhattan Beach), Mocse Credit Union (Modesto), Pacific Service Credit Union (Concord), SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union (Tustin), Valley First Credit Union (Fresno), and Wescom Financial (Pasadena).

International Credit Union Day is organized by World Council of Credit Unions, the global trade association and development platform for credit unions and other financial cooperatives, as well as numerous national credit union trade associations and federations around the world, with the objective to raise awareness about the tremendous work credit unions and financial cooperatives do globally, while encouraging member engagement. Since its inception in 1948, ICU Day has been celebrated through outreach, volunteering, fundraising, open houses, contests, and other activities.
